What Is Xokhi? Building a Community-Powered Local Information Discovery Platform for Assam.
Finding useful local information in Assam is often harder than it should be.
A person may need to find a medicine, compare a local price, search for a PG or rented room, report a lost item, check an important update or simply discover something useful nearby. Yet this information is usually scattered across WhatsApp groups, Facebook posts, phone calls and word of mouth.
That is the problem Xokhi is being built to solve.
Xokhi is a community-powered local information platform for Assam, designed to help people discover useful information from their locality, share responsible updates and support others in their community.
The idea is simple:
Discover • Share • Help Assam
Xokhi aims to bring different types of local information together in one accessible platform, including:
- Local product and medicine availability
- Rent and PG listings
- Lost-and-found updates
- Fraud awareness reports
- Important community updates
- Useful locality-based information
Each public listing has its own shareable page and can be connected with a city, locality and relevant category. This makes it easier for people to find information based on where they live and what they need.
For example, instead of searching through several unrelated groups, a user may be able to browse:
- Medicine availability in Ulubari, Guwahati
- PG listings in Bhangagarh
- Rentals in Beltola
- Lost-and-found updates in Guwahati
- Important local updates across Assam
Xokhi is not intended to replace direct verification. Local information can change quickly, so users should still confirm important details with the relevant shop, property owner, organisation or individual.
The platform is being built around three main ideas:
1. Local information should be easier to find
Useful information should not remain hidden inside closed groups or disappear under old social media posts.
2. Communities should be able to contribute
People often know what is available, what has changed and what others nearby may need. Responsible community contributions can make that knowledge more useful.
3. Local platforms should be built for local realities
Assam has its own languages, places, communities and everyday challenges. Xokhi is being developed with those local needs in mind, while keeping the platform simple enough for people of different ages to use.
The initial focus is Assam, with locality-based information and community participation at the centre of the platform.
The larger mission is:
To make every community smarter, safer and more connected.
Xokhi is still being developed and improved. This Space will share updates about the platform, local information challenges in Assam, community-focused technology and practical ways people can help one another.
